A Little About Sara

Since I can remember, I loved dance. I would twirl and leap down the shopping aisles, tap dance around the kitchen and plié while holding onto a bench, much to the embarrassment of my brother.

This love grew into a deep passion for expression through the arts and inspired me to study and complete my Bachelor of Dance with Drama electives, from The Academy of Music and Performing Arts in 2016.

Throughout my 20 years of dancing, I have learnt and performed a variety of styles of dance and have acted and choreographed in dramatic plays. Highlights of my career include performing in The Buddha’s Wife (2017) and the film Lady of The Horizon (2020), which were choreographed and performed by Eileen Kramar, a 106 year old dancer with the assistance of Sue Healey and a highly revered cast of performers.

I also performed in the 2015 Netball World Cup’s opening ceremony and have performed in multiple choreographic works of Bonnie Curtis Projects, which reflects and tackles views on humanity and modern society.  A personal achievement of mine was creating a choreographic work called Sonder, which focused on every random passer-by having their own unique story, which is as vivid and complex as your own.

I have been working with children aged 6 months to 11 years old for over 10 years and have loved guiding and teaching them. I was lucky to begin my AKG adventure as the Dance and Drama teacher in 2018, and over the years I have developed my classes to encourage the children to express their creativity, imagination and love for dance and drama. In class, I incorporate the children’s decisions and their interests to inspire them and develop their problem solving, confidence and gross and fine motor skills. We also focus on strengthening dance and drama foundations and explore a variety of topics and themes to deepen their knowledge and connect with what they are learning in their rooms.

I’ve had the pleasure of working with AKG for nearly four years and have been fortunate to be promoted to the role of Learn and Grow Coordinator to lead and support our team and help our program excel. I receive such joy watching the children’s enthusiasm while they grow and getting to know our families and forming relationships with them and their children. I have also been grateful for the opportunities to create the children’s graduation dances and attend them with pride at their hard work. I have also been able to choreograph and direct performances for our birthday celebrations for Homebush and Narwee, which allowed us to showcase our program and the children’s love for dance and drama.
