Ermington Service Coordinator

After finishing high school, I went on to complete my Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care in 2004. I knew from a very young age that I wanted to work with children and after my first casual position in a long day care setting my mind was made up. I started my first role as a daycare educator in 2005 once I had completed my Diploma and at this this child care centre I worked my way up to service Coordinator.

After five years I then went on to complete my Certificates 3 and 4 in Fitness and became a personal trainer. During this time, I also worked at a café with my family. In 2016 after a few years out of the Early Childhood industry, I knew I wanted to be back and started at Active Kids Ermington. I have just reached 6 years here at Ermington.

I started my time at Active Kids Ermington as an educator in the Preschool room, I then became second in charge and finally worked my way into my current role as service Coordinator. Active Kids Ermington has become my second home and the children, families and educators make my time here so enjoyable.

What I love about my role is that I can support other educators in their roles within the service as well as build relationships with the families who attend. I believe that by getting to know our families we get to know our children better and provide them with the best possible learning environments.  The support from our management team also drives me to want to continually learn in my role.

What inspired me to become an Early Childhood educator was my own preschool teachers and the experiences I had. Coming from such a large family I was always surrounded by cousins who were much younger and spent more time with them than cousins my own age.

My favourite childhood memory would be spending time with my sisters at the mixed business my parents used to own. We would help by doing things such as spend our Saturday mornings before netball putting all the sections of the newspapers to sell and when we weren’t helping our parents we were sneaking around the shop eating as many chocolates and lollies we could without being caught.

When I’m not at the service I spend whatever time I can with my seven nieces and nephews. My interests and hobbies include music, specifically old school R&B, watching or playing sports.
